The Company

Sam Pellettieri

Chair & CEO/CIO

Sam has held senior executive positions at multiple mutual fund companies and an investment dealer. He spearheaded the launch of a new asset management company and held the title of Chief Investment Officer. Additionally, he founded a boutique institutional investment management firm. His expertise encompasses managing complex portfolios, overseeing investment operations, delivering client service, and building strong teams of investment professionals.

In addition to Sam’s senior executive leadership roles he has managed money for some of Canada’s largest investment managers and funds. This includes Investors Group, National Bank of Canada, and CI  Investments. Successfully, Sam has cumulatively managed over $10 billion of assets and advised more than $50 billion. He has directly managed various Canadian, US, and Global equity and fixed income strategies using his unique quantamental investment process.

Sam served as an investment committee member on two of Canada's Top 30 Pension Plans: The Teacher’s Retirement Allowance Fund (TRAF) and the Winnipeg Civic Employee Benefits Plan (WCEBP), where he held the position of Vice Chair.

Richard Wong

Portfolio Manager

Richard is an award-winning healthcare investment professional with over 20 years of experience. He holds both a Medical Doctor and an MBA degree from the University of Manitoba. In 2007, he earned the Chief Market Technician designation and is a member of the Market Technicians Association. During his tenure at Investor Group as a portfolio manager, Richard was the sole manager of the Global Healthcare Fund for 12 years. Under his management, the fund generated alpha over the last 1, 3, 5, and 10-year periods and won a Lipper Award in 2009. He has also managed other funds, including US Small Cap, Canadian Small Cap Growth, and US Large Cap Growth.


Richard joined Altema Asset Management in 2019, leveraging his unique medical and investment background to optimize portfolio construction in innovative ways that are unknown to most. At Altema, he focuses on comprehensive company and market analysis to identify high-potential investment opportunities and enhance portfolio performance.
 

Jenna Lauber (Chernetsky)

VP Finance & Operations

Jenna has over 16 years of dedicated experience in the hedge fund industry. After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a BComm (Honours) degree, Jenna moved to Bermuda to pursue a career in hedge fund administration. She started as a Fund Accountant at Citi in 2004 and moved over to Bank of New York Mellon where she held the title of Vice President, catering to international hedge fund managers. In 2011 Jenna moved to Toronto where she joined Goldman Sach’s Hedge Fund Administration division. As Vice President, Jenna serviced a Tier 1
Hedge Fund client portfolio with combined AUM of $5B.

Jenna joined Altema Asset Mangement in 2018 as its founding employee. She now leverages her extensive background to oversees financial strategies, operational efficiencies, investor relations and compliance adherence. 

Don Campbell LLB

Principal of Canadian Compliance & Regulatory Law (CCRL) – Outsourced Compliance

Don is a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law and has been practicing law in Winnipeg since 1990. He was previously the National Director of Compliance for IQON Financial, a 400 advisor mutual fund dealer based in Winnipeg and prior to that was Legal Counsel, Compliance, with Assante Asset Management Ltd. He provides legal counsel services and compliance oversight to portfolio managers, investment fund managers, investment dealers and exempt market dealers located from Vancouver Island to Ontario.

Eileen Mueller

Compliance Analyst, Canadian Compliance & Regulatory Law (CCRL) – Outsourced Compliance

Eileen joined CCRL in January 2017 as a Compliance Manager. From 2004 to 2016, Eileen worked at Tetrem Capital Management Ltd. in various roles, having responsibilities primarily in the areas of Trading, Operations & Compliance. Eileen played an instrumental role in the development of policies & procedures, on-going monitoring and day-to-day operations related to these areas. Prior to joining Tetrem, Eileen worked as Assante Asset Management Ltd. from 1997- 2004, most recently as Manager, Selection and Performance Measurement, responsible for the selection and on-going monitoring of sub-advisory Investment Managers. She is a graduate of the University of Manitoba (Bachelor of Arts degree) and has completed multiple securities courses.

Sam Pellettieri

Sam is the Founder, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Altema Asset Management Inc., an emerging alternative asset manager.

He has held a number of senior executive positions at numerous mutual fund companies, and investment dealers. He led a new asset management company at an independent investment dealer and was the Chief Investment Officer. He was also a principal founder and portfolio manager of a boutique institutional investment management firm that ultimately managed in excess of $8B.

Jeff Norton

President & CEO / Chief Investment Officer

President & CEO / Chief Investment Officer Teachers’ Retirement Allowance Fund (TRAF). Jeff is responsible for the overall operations of TRAF, including investment activity. Jeff initially joined TRAF as President & CEO in 2005, and formally became Chief Investment Officer when that position was created in 2009. Prior to 2005, Jeff was President of Assante Global Advisors Inc., an investment management firm based in Los Angeles, California. In October 2013, Jeff left TRAF to accept a senior investment position with Globe General Agencies, a real estate investment firm with holdings across Canada. In September 2015, Jeff returned to TRAF in his prior roles of President & CEO and Chief Investment Officer.

Jeff holds two degrees from the University of Manitoba (Industrial Engineering, 1986, Gold Medalist; Law, 1989, Dean’s Honour List), as well as a Master of Laws degree from the London School of Economics. Jeff is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

Jeff is actively involved in the community, and currently sits on the Board of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and is Chair of its Investment Committee. He is also Chair of the Treasury Risk Oversight Committee for the Province of Manitoba, a member of the Investment Committee for the Winnipeg Civic Employees’ Benefit Program and serves on the Complaints Investigations Committee for the Chartered Professional Accountants of Manitoba. Within the pension industry, Jeff has served as a director of both the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM) and the Pension Investment Association of Canada. Currently, Jeff serves on the Executive Committee of ACPM.

Michael Choiselat

Partner

Michael has a general corporate and commercial practice, with an emphasis on: (a) financial services, which primarily involves representing financial institutions on secured lending transactions; and (b) property and development, which primarily involves advising on acquisitions and divestitures, leasing matters and financing matters. Michael also frequently acts as Manitoba counsel for law firms and businesses located in other jurisdictions. As a result, he is often consulted on matters concerning Manitoba limited partnerships and legal opinions.

Prior to joining Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP, Michael was an associate at Torys LLP in Toronto. Michael is Co-Chair of the Corporate and Commercial department and a member of the Associates Committee at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP.

Paul Asmundson

Chief Corporate Development Officer

Paul is Chief Corporate Development Officer for People Corporation. In this role Mr. Asmundson leads the Corporate Development function and is responsible for overseeing all initiatives and activities aimed at the origination and execution of mergers, acquisitions and investments aligned with the company’s overall strategic growth plan.

Paul has over 25 years of investment banking and corporate development experience. Prior to joining People Corporation, Mr. Asmundson was Senior Managing Director in Deloitte LLP’s Corporate Finance business based in Winnipeg, where his primary focus was mergers and acquisitions, financing and board advisory mandates. In addition, Paul has over 14 years’ experience in the Canadian investment banking sector in progressively senior roles, providing advice on a range of strategic transactions and financing activities. Paul holds a Bachelor Commerce (Honours) from the University of Manitoba and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.
